sigh....

« imagine an eye unruled by man-made laws of perspective, an eye unprejudiced by compositional logic, an eye which does not respond in the name of everything but which must know each object encountered in life through an adventure of perception. How many colours are there in a field of grass to the crawling baby unaware of « green » ? How many rainbows can light create for the untutored eye ? How aware of variations in heat waves can that eye be ? Imagine a world Alive with incompréhensible objects and shimmering with an endless variety of movement and innumérable gradations of color. Imagine a world before the ‘beginning was the word’ »
Stan Brakhage, Metaphors on vision
When I was in college, I wrote an essay about the transcendance of language in art and I came about this text.
When I arrive in Shanghai, that for me the closest I would ever be to this state. Walking around the Streets without any understanding of what things were. I felt like a child, I was excited like a child, had the attention span of a child, I wanted something new everyday. When this feeling subsided, it became harder, I had lost something I would never recover, China would never be tottaly unknown again, and this knowledge I acquired, slight as it may be killed this amazing feeling of total freedom in a world that look to me as a huge moving image, with colours, impressions, people, but no « things ». The number of things I couldn’t name….

I just got to Cologne and got myself settled in my new studio at the Chocolate Museum.
It has a beautiful view over the river and nothing else really, I'll post some picture later.
The language difference is actually as present as in Shanghai I was quite surprised.
In a shop, I asked for some tape and they gave me tampons!
I visited the museum where they have a small chocolate factory, which is very cool and they produce their own chocolate.
A bit like in Charlie and the chocolate factory.
I was wondering what would be the equivalent of chocolate for a chinese kid.
